Conishead Priory is the home of Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre, an international Buddhist College and the Mother Centre of Kadampa Buddhism.

It provides a peaceful and inspiring environment in which people can learn about Buddhism and meditation. The meditations and Buddhist practices taught are suitable for everyone, from those who seek simple relaxation to those who wish to find lasting inner peace and contentment through following the Buddhist path.

The Spiritual Director of Manjushri Centre is the renowned Buddhist teacher, author and meditation master, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Geshe Kelsang first taught at Manjushri Centre when he arrived in the West in 1977. Geshe-la has taught and lived here for twenty seven years.

The Resident Teacher is Gen-la Samden Gyatso, Geshe-la's most senior disciple and Deputy Spiritual Director of the NKT.

Under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang, the Kadampa World Peace Buddhist Temple was built on the grounds of Manjushri Centre in 1995. A place of extraordinary beauty and spiritual inspiration, Geshe Kelsang has said that 'just by looking at the Temple with a happy mind brings inner peace.'

The Temple also provides a peaceful and blessed environment for the international Buddhist Festivals which are held here every year. During the Spring and Summer Festivals over two thousand of Geshe Kelsang's students, from all over the world, gather to receive teachings and empowerments directly from him.

With a community of one hundred resident students, including many Buddhist monks and Buddhist nuns as well as lay practitioners, Manjushri Centre is the largest Kadampa residential & retreat centre in the world.

There are a wide range of activities at the Centre. It is the base of Tharpa Publications who publish and distribute Geshe Kelsang's books. There is also a Buddhist art and statue workshop in which the first large NKT buddha statues are currently being made for the Kadampa Temple in New York state and other future Temples.

Manjushri Centre also hosts the International Teacher Training Programme every July when around a hundred Kadampa teachers gather from all over the world for an intensive three week study programme.
